Are Protein Shakes Essential?

The fact is that you can get everything you need from whole foods. While shakes are great for convenience, they also come at an expense. You want your protein to be released slowly except after a workout, when faster proteins like whey are optimal.

I am a strong believer in protein shakes, for the exact reason mentioned in the post. After a workout it is essential that you get protein and carbs as soon as possible to help your muscles repair themselves. But for the rest of the time you should be getting your protein from sources like lean meats, fish, dairy, eggs, etc.
